Our History

The Cold Spring Bakery, originally know as the Home Bakery was started in 1946 by Melvin and Floss Schurman.

The original bakery (Mann's Bakery) was on Red River Avenue where the Red River Inn's kitchen is presently. The present building was built in 1949 with additions in 1968, 1971 and the mall being added in 1985. Additional production space was added in 2000.  In 2013, we added our second retail location with the Cold Spring Bakery Connection in Waite Park

The Cold Spring Bakery sells about 45% of its products retail and 55% is sold wholesale, primarily through small supermarkets in the area. Our distribution area includes Watkins, Paynesville, Spicer, Elrosa, Willmar, Sauk Centre, Avon, Albany, Holdingford, St. Joe, Litchfield, Kimball, Dassel, Winsted, Howard Lake, Watertown, Sartell, Pierz, Randall and St. Cloud.

The Cold Spring Bakery employs about 75 people which includes a number of part time employees.

We are a full service bakery producing cakes, donuts, buns, breads, cookies and many other types of pastries. We also specialize in wedding and special occasion cakes which are delivered throughout the Central Minnesota area.
